Sorted accredited as Living Wage Employer

Sorted Communications has joined household names including Nationwide, Google, LUSH, Everton FC and Chelsea FC in gaining accreditation as a Living Wage Employer.

The accreditation from the Living Wage Foundation shows our clients that we are a responsible employer which rewards our talented team appropriately for the valuable work they do.

What is the living wage?

Above a tidy white desk, on a cream-coloured wall, sits a colourful Living Wage Employer certificate with the Sorted Communications logo at the bottom.

The living wage is an hourly rate of pay that is voluntarily paid by employers. The rates are calculated and updated annually according to the basic cost of living in the UK. This is different to the government’s ‘national living wage’, which is based on average earnings.

The current UK living wage for people working outside of London is £10.90 per hour or £11.95 per hour in London; the government rate is set at £10.42 across the whole of the UK.

The Living Wage Campaign was originally started in 2001 by Citizens UK but is now run by the Living Wage Foundation. They want to encourage employers to play their part in tackling in-work and post-work poverty by providing a decent standard of living.

Over 14,000 UK employers have signed up and the living wage movement has benefited hundreds of thousands of families by enabling them to earn a wage they can live on.

Why does it matter?

As an entirely remote company, the wellbeing of all our employees and sub-contractors is hugely important to us and a key driver in our decision to pay the real living wage. At Sorted, we are used to making a positive impact with our words, but we want to do the same with our actions. It’s part of our corporate social responsibility.

We are committed to ensuring our business undertakings are conducted as ethically as possible and are delighted to be recognised as a Living Wage Employer because we believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.

We also want to attract and retain the best people to deliver our services. Paying the living wage makes this possible and of course has a hugely positive impact on staff retention and satisfaction.

It also makes great business sense – 93% of organisations who pay the living wage have benefited since their accreditation, whether in terms of reputation, morale or competitor differentiation.

How did we become accredited?

We completed an online application form in which we had to confirm that we pay all of our directly employed staff a living wage and that we have a plan in place to extend that to regular sub-contracted staff. (We do already pay all our regular sub-contracted staff a living wage, but the form only asked us to confirm that we have a plan to do so.)

Our application was reviewed by the Living Wage Foundation and our accreditation was approved.
